After the Hospital STL is a reference desk for one reader at one moment: the daughter or son in a St. Louis hospital hallway, in the last day before a parent is sent home, who has just been told "she can't be alone" and has not been told what that means.
Who publishes it
OwnersFirm publishes this site. It runs St. Louis desks that families can check against the public record, and this hallway desk is one of those. Nobody writing here is a clinician, and nobody is presented as if they were. Every page carries a desk byline rather than a named author, on purpose: nobody here should be mistaken for a nurse.
Why it exists
Search for "mom coming home from hospital can't take care of herself" and most of what comes back is a forum thread or a company's blog. The public documents that actually answer the question, Medicare's discharge checklist, the fast-appeal rules, Missouri's CARE Act, the state's own description of the three types of care in the home, are scattered across a dozen government sites and written for nobody in particular. This desk puts them in the order the week arrives, in plain words, with a link on every fact so you can check it yourself.
How it is cited
Every number, rule and phone number on this site links inline to a public source: a federal or Missouri government page, a hospital's own public page, or a major nonprofit such as the National Institute on Aging, the National Council on Aging or the Family Caregiver Alliance. We opened each of them on September 10, 2026 and checked that the wording on this desk matches what that page actually prints. The sources page lists all of them, with dates. A claim that is missing from that list does not belong on these pages.
What you will not find here
- It will not diagnose, predict an outcome, or write a treatment plan, and it will not tell you what a symptom means. Each piece ends by handing the clinical question back to the people treating her.
- It will not print what any company charges by the hour, or a range, because no public file records that number.
- It will not rank a hospital, a hospice, a facility or a company against another, and it will not write a smear of any of them. Hospitals on this site are maps to their own public pages, nothing more.
- It will not make up a number, put words in anyone's mouth, or invent a review.
- It will not load a tracking tag, a pixel, or a second phone number used to count calls. The only form posts to this site's own address.
The advertising disclosure
One slot on this site is paid. New Plan Care, an independently owned non-medical in-home care company based in Chesterfield, Missouri, is a client of OwnersFirm, which publishes this site, and pays for that slot. You will see that label on the hub and on the pieces that carry the box, and the box is never a ranking, a score, or an outcome of anything on this desk. The two companies are not commonly owned. The hallway pages themselves were not bought, and none of them was written to tilt toward the client. The only form here forwards a name, a phone number and a town to New Plan Care so a person can return the call. It does not ask about health, and the form itself tells you not to type any of that.
Corrections
Public pages change. If a figure on these pages drifts from the public page it points to, the public page is the authority, and this desk will correct the wording on the next review. The sources page prints the day each URL was last opened, so you can decide whether a fact still feels current.
